Bridging generations…
Nurturing the present for the future…
through the power of music.

Our Mission

To promote a greater musical understanding in the border community through outreach, education, youth programs, and celebration with eclectic musical offerings and an emphasis on classical music culminating during the summer months.

Each year, the El Paso Society for Musicians of the Future honors and celebrates an outstanding person who has been integral to the support and continuation of the arts in El Paso and the surrounding area through the donation of time, talent, and/or financial support.

A message from our president

“…cultivating the power of music..”

It was another fantastic year! The 2016-2017 season for the El Paso Society for Musicians of the Future (EPSMF) has inspired us to reach further, cultivate the fire of music in more young musicians, and keep the musical bridge from generation to generation active with more opportunities.

This year’s Competition for Young Musicians was an amazing recital featuring six incredibly talented students. Samuel Leighton Maddox, 14, won the competition, delighting the audience with his repertoire. We heard piano selections from Bach, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Beethoven throughout the recital. Vocal selections ranged from Mozart to Britten. The talent was exceptional. The judging was close. This competition was a testament to the excellence emerging in the young musicians in our community. Additionally, a Bb clarinet and euphonium were awarded to students through the Instruments for Young Lives Program. Take note - applications for the 2018 Competition for Young Musicians and the Instruments for Young Lives program will be available online on September 15, 2017 at

The participants in our Ambassador Leadership Program (ALPs) are out in their communities doing outreach, sharing their time and music, and inspiring peers, parents, and people who have unmet needs. We see positive outcomes in and through our young musicians’ experiences- musical fuel for our work.

Be sure to listen to From the Top on KTEP 88.5FM. The tapings of our El Paso shows have been rebroadcast several times this past year. These shows have been big endeavors for EPSMF, yet the benefits to our community have been even greater. We have seen and heard four of our own El Paso performers featured on this nationally syndicated NPR program.

Finally, we are thrilled to announce a new program geared specifically to young composers (ages 9 to 25). OM/NI- Original Music/New Ideas- is planned for a late fall launch and will celebrate the compositional excellence of gifted young composers nationwide. Watch for more details.

The community at large benefits from the gifts that pass through our Arts organizations. EPSMF was fortunate to have participated for a third time in the El Paso Community Foundation’s Jewel Box Series last January. The series is a gem and a gift to smaller Arts organizations who will have the opportunity again this year to present their creativity in El Paso’s glorious Philanthropy Theatre. Gems need to be seen and gifts need to be shared.

So, spread the word! Make it a point to attend events and to participate in programs. We need you-members of our community- to support the Arts and the musicians that will carry legacies forward.
